San Diego Zoo

One of the most popular attractions in the city, the San Diego Zoo should be a must-see on your list of fun things to do, along with the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The 100-acre Zoo is located in Balboa Park, and includes a lush botanical garden. Be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes, as the pathways are not always flat. In fact, there are some actual hills in the Zoo. A water bottle is also recommended. There are plenty of places to eat as well as pick up souvenirs of favorite zoo critters, from artic foxes to the komodo dragon!

FAQs

  • What animals can I see at the Zoo?

The San Diego Zoo is home to more than 3,700 animals, which represent over 650 species from all over the  globe. Perhaps the most popular are the 3 giant pandas from China. Another fun exhibit to see is the elephants, who sometimes are in the middle of playfully interacting with their keepers. The Zoo is divided into 10 sections, each representing a part of the world. These include the Australian Outback, the Urban Jungle and the Northern Frontier.
  • Does the Zoo have animal tours?

Yes. There are several types of experiences you can add to your general admission ticket. The Inside Look Tour offers a behind-the-scenes view of the way the Zoo takes care of its animals. Early Morning with Pandas is an exciting chance to spend special time with these cuddly "bears" and includes a VIP cart tour of the Zoo grounds. Breakfast with Koalas includes a delicious breakfast buffet in the Australian Outback home of the Zoo's koala colony.
